What is WeListen?

In its simplest form WeListen is an employee survey. However, it’s not a standard annual or employee pulse survey. WeListen is designed specifically to delve deeper into the underlying psychology of how people feel about the employee experience.

Inspiring and keeping your staff depends on knowing what they like and dislike about their work. To motivate, engage and retain your staff you need to know what they are enjoying about their job and what needs to change. WeListen shows you what it’s like to be one of your employees, so you can fine-tune the employee experience to motivate, engage and keep your best people.

How does it work?

Running a WeListen survey is like performing a full medical on your workforce. Enabling you to get a temperature check on working culture factors like; engagement, wellbeing, motivation and productivity.
WeListen asks employees questions in 16 key areas that cover all of the aspects of working culture that need to be present for your people to thrive. Gallup has their Q12 and we have our Q16 plus 100+ sub questions to get to the root causes of how your people really feel.

Team Understanding: How much of the time do you feel your team understand each other and the work they are doing?

The similarity of team members’ mental models of their tasks is significantly related to both team processes and team performance, so it is a vital part of getting a team to be more than the sum of its parts.

Knowledge: How much of the time do you feel that you have all the necessary knowledge to do your work?

Half of all employees don’t receive the information they need to do their jobs well. They become frustrated and products and your customers suffer as a result, so asking questions around whether employees have the knowledge they need to do their job allows us to uncover specifically what they need to excel.

Resources: How often do you feel you have all the necessary support and resources to do your work?

Resource gaps create uncertainty about whether staff will be able to do tasks easily. Employees need simple and direct pathways to the resources they need to do their job. This is one of the basic rules of lean working, which increases efficiency and job satisfaction.

Attention: How often do you feel that you are given enough positive attention at work?

People become distressed when they feel isolated or ignored. Deficits in social activity can cause large decreases in intelligent thought, reducing both speed and accuracy. There’s also a wellbeing justification for acting where there are low scores in this area. Poor social support from supervisors appear to increase health risks for staff, which can lead to increased absenteeism or even long-term sickness leave and being signed off completely in some cases.

Security: How much of the time do you feel secure at work?

Security is vital to the human being – job security alone is a risk factor for coronary heart disease and musculoskeletal pain. In terms of perceived stress, job insecurity can have a worse impact on employees than unemployment itself.

Meaning: How often do you feel that your work is meaningful?

Companies benefit when employees find work meaningful – it is one of the strongest predictors of engagement, and leads to lower levels of absence and better quality performance. Questions around meaning help us discover who needs help with motivation, satisfaction and productivity – all drivers that meaning provides.

Each of the 16 areas have general questions assigned (like those provided above) to take an initial temperature check. Where your people have indicated that there could be an improvement, the survey dynamically asks them supplementary questions in that specific area. The results are then presented back to you in clear easy to understand graphs you can quickly turn employee feedback into initiatives to improve motivation, employee engagement and staff retention.

Why do you need WeListen?

Many business have an employee pulse survey in place, but often just to tick a procedural box for an annual report or to meet European Union Directives on consulting employees. While the intention to ‘listen’ is there in theory, the survey questions also tend to only scratch the surface when there are many deeper subconscious factors to consider. Factors that employees themselves are unaware of and therefore cannot reveal until they are asked the right questions.
